5 Magnificent Window Covering Combinations That Prove Mixing & Matching Works Best

What do you do if you need privacy, but still love your view?  Love the idea of  beautiful drapery, but have concerns about how to achieve light control?  I have a lot of clients who have conflicting needs for their window coverings and find themselves stuck on how to solve their conundrum.  I promise you, you can have beauty AND function.

Combination #1: Layer Linen with Sheer Drapery

Sheers are a timeless style - they aren't your grandmother's sheers- they come in a variety of textures and weights, diffuse light beautifully, and create softness in a room.  Adding linen drapery panels over top create an additional layer of timelessness that transcends many different design aesthetics.  When you need that light and airy feel with simple elegance this is your go to pairing.

Combination #2: Discover Drapery with Roller Shades

Perhaps you need added privacy.  Consider adding roller shades underneath combination #1.  They're also great under decorative valances and cornices.  Roller shades come in light filtering, and room darkening fabrics.  And the best part is when they're rolled up they practically disappear - maintaining the view when you want it.

Combination #3: Blend Blackouts with Sheer Roman Shades

If you prefer a softer style, combine sheer roman shades with functional room darkening drapery panels you can close to get some good shut-eye.  Sheer roman shades can include a light filtering lining to create an even more ethereal effect in the space.

Combination #4: Try Traditional Blinds with DRAPERY or Valances

Traditional 2" wood blinds come in a variety of wood tones and whites, and create a traditional or contemporary look depending on the color you select.  I love to match the blind color to the window trim to coordinate with existing mouldings.  Stationary side panels in a beautiful pattern or solid fabric complete the color story in the room.

Combination #5: Include Interior Shutters with Drapery

Elevate your room even more by changing from blinds to interior shutters.  Paired with drapery or valances, this creates a classic traditional look, or, sleek and modern by using larger slat sizes with hidden tilts.  Another benefit to shutters is the increased resale value of your home.  Shutters are a permanent architectural feature and come with a variety of slat sizes and trim options.
