How to Make Big Impact with 3 Small Home Projects

Life sure looks different during these months of sheltering in place. Because business can’t be conducted as usual, I’ve spent quite a bit of time working on smaller projects, which require no contact with customers.

As you might imagine, a lot of folks are taking a look around their homes and noticing things that could use a refresh or update. And if you’re like me, you’re pretty much over staring at the same dingy areas or pieces of furniture in your home.

Maybe you are wondering what can be done to bring back some joyful spark to the routines you’ve found yourself stuck in?

If so, I have some solutions. For a quick pick-me-up in your home, try one (or all) of these three projects to get back into your groove. I guarantee these 3 small projects will make a big impact.

Project 1: Explore New Upholstery

We’ve had a lot of sofa time these last few months, and many of us are ready for a change. If it’s not your sofa, maybe it is your kitchen chairs…or the armchair in your bedroom…or an ottoman. Do you have any of those that could use some love?

There are some amazing family and pet-friendly fabrics out there that are basically magic. Take a look at this before and after video of me cleaning soy sauce, crayon, black marker, and highlighter off of a piece of Crypton Fabric. I cannot tell you how excited these performance fabrics make me.

Wondering if your piece is worth the time, hassle, and cost of reupholstering? I have some thoughts on that in a recent blog post.

Project 2: Add Comfort to Outdoor Furniture

Another simple project that increases the life of your outdoor furniture is investing in new cushions. Out with the mold, mildew, and fading!

With a huge selection of UV and weather-resistant fabrics, you can be just as comfortable on your outside seating as you are on your indoor sofa.

Plus, now is the time to spruce up your backyard for full enjoyment of your “outdoor room”. Even if we can’t have company over yet, we can still take every advantage of alfresco dining or a nap on the swing.

Here’s a few of the latest fabrics for the season:

Project 3: Grab Brushes and Paint

Could your front door use a pop of color? Pick something that complements the landscape, or contrasts with your flower beds. This is an instant feel-good project that can be accomplished in an afternoon.

Maybe that wicker furniture could use a coat of black spray paint to make some new red cushions really stand out.

Or what about painting the master bedroom and bath? Indulge in a soothing color scheme to relax and rejuvenate during these unusual times.

Here’s one of my favorite color palettes for soothing the soul:
